Mistfall Hunter is a dark-fantasy extraction game: you pick a hunter, drop into a contested map, fight both the environment and other players, and the run only counts if you make it out alive with your loot. Everything you carried in is at risk. Everything you carried out is yours.
That single rule reshapes how you should read every guide about it. In a normal action RPG, the strongest build is the one that kills fastest. In an extraction game, the strongest build is the one with the highest expected value per run — and that is usually not the same build, because a kit that wins nine fights and dies in the tenth can be worth less than a kit that avoids fights and leaves with the bag.

Read this before your first raid#
Four things that cost new hunters the most gear, in the order they usually cost it:
You do not have to win. Extraction is the win condition. A run where you avoid every player fight, clear two safe objectives and walk out is a good run. The instinct to contest every noise you hear is imported from shooters that respawn you, and it is the single largest source of new-player losses.
Your first gear cliff is inventory management, not stats. Carrying your best kit into every raid feels correct and bleeds you dry. Run cheap loadouts while you are learning maps, and bring the good gear when you already know your extraction route.
Extraction points are the most dangerous places on the map. Everyone must eventually go to one, which makes them the highest-density ambush zones in the game. Arrive early, approach from an unexpected angle, and never sprint the last stretch in the open.
Audio beats stats. In every extraction game ever made, the player who hears the other one first wins the majority of engagements. Headphones and a quiet room are worth more than a tier of gear.
Solo versus squad, honestly#
A lot of players arrive asking whether solo is viable. The realistic answer:

Solo is viable and rewarding, but it demands a genuinely different build to squad play — you are optimising for disengagement rather than damage. That is the whole premise of our solo build guide, and it is why copying a top squad build into solo play usually goes badly.
Season 1 and why tier lists go stale#
Seasonal games rebalance, and extraction games rebalance hard, because a dominant kit does not just win fights — it drains the economy for everyone else. Expect the meta to move.
What that means for you as a reader: a tier list with no date on it is worthless. Every ranking page here carries a "last updated" stamp at the top, and we re-check after each balance patch. If you find one of ours more than a couple of weeks stale after a patch, tell us and we will re-test it.
FAQ#
Is Mistfall Hunter free to play?#
Check the current store listing for your region — extraction titles frequently change access model between beta, launch and later seasons, and a page that states a price today can be wrong within a month. That is exactly the kind of detail we date rather than assert.
Do I lose everything when I die?#
That is the genre's core rule: gear you carried into a raid is at risk on death. Most games in this space carve out exceptions — starter kits, insured items, quest items — so the practical question is not "do I lose it" but "what specifically is protected", which is worth confirming in-game before you commit good gear.
Why do codes stop working?#
Reward codes are almost always time-limited, region-limited or capped at a number of redemptions. A code that worked last week failing this week is normal, not a bug. Our codes page is dated and re-checked rather than left to accumulate dead entries.
Can I play with friends on different platforms?#
Crossplay availability changes between seasons and platforms. If you are planning a squad around it, verify in the in-game settings on the actual platforms you own before anyone buys.
