How the monthly cycle works#
The pattern, which has held for years:
- Announcement — the lineup is revealed, usually in the last week of the outgoing month.
- Claim day — the new games become available on the first Tuesday of the new month.
- Overlap — the previous month's games remain claimable until that same Tuesday.
- Rotation — anything unclaimed by then is gone from the monthly offer.
The single most important consequence: claiming is not downloading. Adding a title to your library takes seconds and no storage. You do not need to install it, play it, or have space for it. Claim everything on claim day and decide later.
What happens to claimed games if you cancel#
This trips up nearly everyone at some point.
Monthly games are licensed while you subscribe, not owned permanently. If your subscription lapses, claimed monthly titles become unplayable — but they stay attached to your account. Once you resubscribe, they become playable again without needing to be re-claimed. You lose access, not ownership of the entitlement.
That is different from games bought outright during a sale, which remain playable regardless of subscription state. And it is different again from the catalogue tiers, where titles rotate in and out on the publisher's schedule regardless of what you have done.

FAQ#
Can I claim on the web instead of my console?#
Yes. Claiming from the PlayStation Store website or the mobile app adds the title to your account exactly as claiming on console does — useful when you are away from your console on claim day.
Do I need the top tier to get monthly games?#
No. Monthly games are included from the base tier upward. Higher tiers add catalogues and other benefits on top; they do not gate the monthly titles.
The game is not showing up after I claimed it. Why?#
Almost always a region mismatch or a stale library cache. Confirm the account region matches the store you claimed on, then restore licences from the console's account settings, which forces a re-sync.
