PS Plus August 2026: when you can claim, and how claiming actually works
The PlayStation Plus monthly cycle is one of the most predictable things on the platform, and knowing the rhythm answers most of what people search for each month.
The cycle, and where August 2026 sits in it#
| Stage | When | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| Reveal | Last week of the previous month | The lineup is announced |
| Claim day | First Tuesday of the month | New games become claimable |
| Overlap ends | Same Tuesday | The previous month's games stop being claimable |
| Window closes | First Tuesday of the following month | Anything unclaimed is gone |
August 2026's monthly games follow that pattern: the lineup was revealed in the last week of July, and claiming opens on the first Tuesday of August. Rollout is staggered by region and can take a few hours to appear on every storefront, so a title not showing at midnight in your timezone is normal rather than a problem.
How to claim, in three ways#
On console: PlayStation Store → the PlayStation Plus section → Monthly Games. Select each title and choose Add to Library.
On the web: sign in at the PlayStation Store website, open the PlayStation Plus monthly games page, and add each one. Fastest option when you are not near your console.
On the mobile app: the PlayStation App has the same monthly games section. This is the one to use if you are away from home on claim day — a thirty-second job on a phone.
All three do exactly the same thing. Use whichever you can reach on the day.
The mistake that costs people games every month#
Intending to claim later, and having later arrive after the rotation.
The monthly window is roughly four to five weeks and it does not extend. Every month, a large number of subscribers lose a game they wanted purely to timing. The fix is trivial: set a recurring calendar reminder for the first Tuesday of every month. Two minutes to set up, and it removes the problem permanently.
What happens if your subscription lapses#
This is the part that genuinely confuses people, and it is worth being precise about.
Monthly games are licensed while you subscribe, not owned outright. If your subscription ends:
- Claimed monthly titles become unplayable.
- They remain attached to your account.
- When you resubscribe, they become playable again — you do not need to re-claim them, and you do not need them to still be in the current lineup.
You lose access, not the entitlement. That is different from games you bought during a sale, which stay playable regardless, and different again from the game catalogue tiers, where titles rotate out on the publisher's schedule no matter what you do.
| Monthly games | Game catalogue | Purchased | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Must be claimed | Yes, within the window | No | N/A |
| Playable after cancelling | No | No | Yes |
| Returns on resubscribing | Yes | Only if still in catalogue | N/A |
| Can be removed from the service | No, once claimed | Yes | No |
Troubleshooting claim problems#
"Add to Library" is greyed out. Usually you already own it — check your library first. It can also mean a region mismatch between your account and the store you are browsing.
The game is not appearing at all. Regional rollout is staggered. Give it a few hours on claim day before assuming anything is wrong.
You claimed it but it will not download. Restore licences: Settings → Users and Accounts → Other → Restore Licences. This forces a re-sync and fixes the majority of these cases.
You are on a higher tier and cannot find the monthly games. They are in the same place for every tier. Higher tiers add catalogues alongside the monthly games; they do not replace them.
Wrong account. If you have multiple profiles on the console, confirm you are signed into the one with the subscription — the store shows different content per account and this is easy to miss.
FAQ#
What time do PS Plus games go live?#
Rollout begins early on the first Tuesday and completes across regions over several hours. There is no single global minute. If you cannot see it first thing, check again later in the day rather than troubleshooting.
How long do I have to claim the August 2026 games?#
Until the first Tuesday of September 2026, when the next month's lineup replaces them. That is roughly four to five weeks.
Do I need PS Plus Premium to get the monthly games?#
No. Monthly games are included from the base tier upwards. Higher tiers add game catalogues and other benefits on top of the monthly titles rather than gating them.
Can I claim on PS4 for a PS5 game?#
You can claim any title in the lineup from any device that can reach the store, including the web and the mobile app, regardless of which console you own. Whether you can then play it depends on the platform version included.
If I cancel and resubscribe, do I get my claimed games back?#
Yes. They stay attached to your account while you are unsubscribed and become playable again the moment the subscription is active. No re-claiming required.
